Beth's CHICA Cardi-Jacket
Vogue 8430
Beth used our Chica knit for this great rendition of Vogue 8430, and it has all of us in the ArtBarn coveting this fabric.
The pattern ran big on her slim frame, so we pared it down, making a double pointed dart at the back neck, adding a seam at the center back. And, with good humor, Beth ripped out the sleeves and we cut down the pattern at the shoulder and side seams. She turned the edges to the outside.
The fabric easy sewing, comes to life in a garment and feels fabulous. Beth wore it to work 3 days in a row! I'm using it for a prototype for a future pattern. |

Nancy Murakami's Wardrobe
My friend Nancy worked in our booth at the Puyallup show. Like all sewists, she had the 'what to wear' dilemma. She made her entire wardrobe. Some of the fabrics come from us, others from her stash.
In one word: FABULOUS! (She refers to herself as a PIB....person in black)
We loved seeing her outfits and interpretations every day and thought you might enjoy it too. If you live in the Portland area, Nancy works a few days each week at the JoAnn's store in Gresham. How lucky they are to have her expertise. |

| Vogue 8559 | | Vogue 8559. Nancy a used a woven silk she hand dyed in a shibori class she took with Kayla Kennington. (Note: it is hard to get a true black, this fabric started out white). She adapted the pattern, making it larger across the back and in the sleeve in order to use a woven. |

|  | | | | | | To punch out the edges, along the self raw edge bindings, Nancy used thread scraps which she zig-zagged in place. A solution that reminds me of the hand made Chanel braids with a modern flair. |

| | | Vogue 8582 tunic in basic black cotton/lycra knit. Skirt in our Knit Wit fabric, is from Christine Jonson, a fabulous basic pencil skirt, shaped in all the right places. I immediately sent off for a copy of this pattern! See link below to the pattern. |

| | | Made as a vest in our Dot-E-O semi sheer knit. Nancy used a raw edge strip of another knit fabric for the larger dot edge, a simple and effective solution to punch out the design. |

My friend and colleague Sandy Ericson is the force behind the Center for Pattern design. Her newsletters are marvelous. Her website is fantastic. She is doing vital and important work with passion and purpose in the field of all things pattern related. I am itching to take the next Julian Roberts workshop!
With this dress in mind, I have been purchasing some stunning Italian linen in just the right weight. |
