Vogue 8151 is the starting point for this simple cotton/lycra/poly t-shirt. The neck is bound with cotton mesh, and bits of cotton mesh ribbon inserted off center. The raw edge of the mesh fabric binding is lapped and zig-zagged to the neck edge....fast and easy. The mesh ribbon hides the binding seam at the back.

Knit fabrics can look a little 'flat', and while this oatmeal knit has great drape, I wanted to add more life to it. I silk screened the cut out pieces using Pearl White Lumiere fabric paint using the Japanese Gardens silk screen kit, and wanted an overall tone-on-tone effect. I start with the large screens, and then fill in the gaps with medium and smaller screens. The silk screening is fun and easy, and I am for an effect that pleases me. I placed the silk screens on the diagonal on the pattern pieces. Once the paint is dry, it is pressed with a warm iron to heat set it. As a final finish, I added a top silk screened layer using foil adhesive and the new silver hologram metallic foil---love the slightly antique silver effect. A little metallic goes a long way. I use it sparingly.
