The holiday season crept up on me, but I’ve kicked into gear, decked the halls and hit the studio to whip up some quick to make girlfriend gifts (texting gloves this year) and invent a warm winter sweater. You can see photos of recent projects as well as regular posts from a month in Paris in my new Blog, see the link below.

Here at marcytilton.com, we are delighted to present an ever changing and evolving selection of fabrics and products chosen with a discerning eye, and in this Holiday newsletter we’ve put together some suggestions from our website for your seasonal shopping and gifting. This year we’re offering a new Gift Certificate as well as a new collection of pins we found in Paris along with ideas for gifts to spark the creative juices in different ways.
One of the gifts I’m giving myself this holiday is going into the studio to explore and play, to try fresh ideas with permission to take the time to invent & explore design and materials without any attachment to the outcome. We’re all taking some time off during the holidays. I’m off to visit my family in Minnesota, taking Vasco along on the adventure, getting him ready to fly with me.

ArtBarn Schedule for Orders:
Shelley and Beth are in the ArtBarn next week on Monday, Tuesday & Thursday (Dec 12, 13, 15th). Please place orders no later than Wednesday, Dec. 14th so we can pack and ship by December 16.

Wishing you a peaceful and creative holiday season from my studio to yours,

Marcy Tilton

GROOM Microfiber Backpack Handbag
Thanks to a travelling companion I discovered the Groom microfiber backpack handbags in Paris nearly 15 years ago and have been carrying them ever since. Practical for everyday, this lightweight beautiful design is essential for travel (I can fit my laptop in the larger size). The company has been producing the microfiber backpack handbags for 20 years. It is a Parisian classic---especially noteworthy in a fashion period where handbags tend toward being elaborate, fussy and overdone.

Cool Links
Some of my favorite websites and blogs that feed my eyes and soul. Please pass on your favorites too.

Sybilla Court
Sybilla Court is one of my design muses. I keep her book Etcetera out and refer to it regularly. She has a sense of style an color that resonates and inspires. An Australian who lived in New York, she now has a shop in Sydney. Check the website and if you like it, send off for the book (& I think she has a new book coming out soon).
Historically Inaccurate
There is something intriguing, edgy and charming about men who embroider. Do see what this skillful, creative and quirky designer does by adding embroidery embellishment and flourishes to classic toile de jouy French home decor prints.
Male Pattern Boldness
Peter Lappin is infamous as a sewing machine collecting fanatic and sewist. I follow this blog with relish and am inspired by his broad range of creative ideas....makes me want to invent an alter ego and dress her up. Plus, he has a great sense of tongue in chic humor.
Ted Kennedy Watson Blog
If you live in the Seattle area, you probably know the wonderful Kennedy Watson shops. It was so fun to stumble upon Kennedy Watson in the Pike Place Market area. Now I follow his blog, which always gives me an inspiration to freshen up things around the house and studio.
Junky Styling
This British clothing company re-fashions and upscales recycled clothing with just the right touch. Good design triumphs here, so if you are into re-making things, this is a benchmark to aspire to!
Made By Hand
It is tailoring season...well, if you are a tailor it is ALWAYS tailoring season. This blog tenderly tells the story of a tailor who loves his work and treasures the history and tradition of his profession. I am a Sunday tailor, and love this process. If you have never taken a tailoring class and one comes your way, GO FOR IT! In the meantime, bookmark this site and start learning from a pro with a passion.
Dosa
I've been a fan of this clothing line from their start up days in a tiny shop on Union Street in San Francisco. Now a large successful company based in LA, the designer works with artisans and craftspeople in India, using traditional techniques and fabrics with her own interpretations and designs. The results are always beautiful. The website is beautiful too. They used her studio for some of the scenes in the film, Friends With Money. Good design triumphs here, I am a fan.
Design Sponge
I check this site regularly, it has its hand on the pulse of the most current and cutting edge design scene, and even has the occasional reference to sewing.
Fashion Incubator
Kathleen Fasanella's blog, book and postings are a breath of fresh air and a gift to anyone who sews, designs or aspires to becoming a professional designer. I recommend her book, her blog and listen up to whatever she recommends. She is opinionated in the best possible way, and I respect her work.
